Day 3
Today I’m delighted to invite Karen Clarke to my Thriller Fest. Karen has been writing for years, her first psychological thriller, Your Life for Mine, is a must read.
Karen, how did you get into writing?
I started writing short stories for women’s magazines about twelve years ago, then progressed to novels, writing twelve romcoms before switching genres and co-writing thriller The Secret Sister with fellow author Amanda Brittany. My first psychological suspense novel Your Life for Mine is out in October 2020.
It’s time for those 5 sneaky questions…
- If there was a fire in your home, what one thing would you save? (excluding humans, pets, photographs and books)
I would probably grab my hair straighteners. My frizzy fringe is the bane of my life. (photo attached)
- Your first date.
It was a blind date when I was seventeen, and memorable because we went to the cinema where he leaned over and told me in a whisper that he still wet the bed and did that bother me? Yes. It did.

- If the tables were turned and you ended up on Death Row, what would your last meal be and who would you share it with?
It would be my favourite comfort food: cheesy mashed potatoes followed by at least four jam sandwiches with my husband, Tim. He doesn’t share my carb obsession so would be happy to let me eat it all myself.
- What keeps you awake at night?
Reading my Kindle. I can never stop after just a couple of chapters.
- What would you do in a hostage situation with an axe-wielding maniac?
I would use my natural charm to persuade them to put the axe to better use, like chopping the door down and letting me out. Failing that, scream until I was sick.
